University of Memphis at Lambuth welcomes students for move-in day

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local college welcomes some old and new faces as students move in for the semester.

“We are very excited to have both our new and returning students coming to our campus and just bringing the energy and the passion here,” said Madison Woods, assistant director for student services.

The University of Memphis at Lambuth celebrates another successful move-in day.

This is just the start of a two week-long celebration for the college.

“Events put on by our campus partners, our rec center, our library, student services. Just to get students out there connecting with other people and just getting to know what our campus has to offer,” said Woods.

These events include their annual gate ceremony for new students.

“We welcome all of our new students into campus by having them walk through our front gates, while faculty and staff are cheering them on and welcoming them in,” said Woods.

Another event is their involvement fair that encourages students to learn about organizations on campus. One upcoming event will feature games and food for residents.

“We’re gonna be having a cookout on campus for our residents that are here. That’s going to be really fun especially if our weather is like today,” said Woods.

Residential advisor for Carney Johnson Hall Madison Rogers has been preparing for weeks to invite new and current students onto the campus. She’s decorated her floor bulletin boards in cartoon themes for students to learn more about the campus.

“For the information boards, it’s just so they know about the campus and get to know the resources on campus. First semester you may not know a lot of the resources on campus and what we have to offer,” said Rogers.

She features another board that informs students of who she is to build community. Another board teaches students about the laundry room.

“For laundry board, some people don’t know how to do laundry going into the dorm. So it’s good to set a couple of rules and let them know,” said Rogers.

Faculty and staff say they’re excited to welcome students to start a new year.
