UPDATE: THP says a female has died following jump from Jackson overpass
JACKSON, Tenn.—-THP confirms the death of an individual who jumped from an overpass in Jackson.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol released the following information regarding the individual jumping from the Highway 45 Bypass Overpass.
“Tennessee Highway Patrol-Jackson District is investigating an incident on Interstate 40 Westbound at the US Highway 45 Bypass Overpass. A female subject jumped from the overpass onto Interstate 40. The investigation is still ongoing. The identity of the female will not be released until notification has been made to her family.”
The City of Jackson Police Department also released the following news release regarding the incident:

Police Investigate The Cause of Victim Falling Off Bridge
Date: August 24, 2025
[Jackson, TN] – Jackson Police officers responded to an incident on Highway 45/1-40 at approximately 2:23 PM. A white female either fell or jumped from a bridge over I-40 into the westbound traffic, where she was struck by an unknown vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with all those affected by this incident. We urge anyone with information to contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400.”

Breaking News: Witnesses say a person has jumped from the Hwy 45 Bypass overpass into traffic
JACKSON, Tenn.—Individual witnessed jumping from the Highway 45 Bypass overpass into traffic below.
Witnesses tell WBBJ 7 that a person has jumped from the Highway 45 Bypass overpass into traffic. Witnesses believe the person did not survive.
I-40 Westbound was closed down between the area of Highland and Highway 412 during the incident.
We spoke with THP who could only confirm that someone did indeed jump and they tell us the incident remains under investigation at this time.
