Annual African Street Festival set to return in the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. — The 35th African Street Festival is returning to east Jackson this weekend.

It’s a jam-packed weekend celebrating community, family, and culture with live performances from Six One Tribe, Carita Cole and more.

“Three days of cultural awareness. Three days of entertainment, food, family, and just having a good time. We call it a party with a purpose,” said Wendy Trice Martin, president of The Society for African-American Cultural Awareness.

Friday night is HBCU Night, with a special spotlight on Lane College.

“It’s going to be a great time, a great evening, full of partying with a purpose. It’s an opportunity to celebrate our culture. The African-American Festival has been around for a long time,” said Dr. Anthony Williams Jr., chief of staff for Lane College.

The festival takes place at the T.R. White Sportsplex this Labor Day weekend, starting at 10 am. Admission is free.
