Honoring those who go above and beyond with the ‘First Watch’ cookout

JACKSON Tenn. — First responders in Jackson and Madison County receive a free meal on Labor Day, courtesy of 1st Step Fitness Center in Jackson.

The ‘First Watch’ Responders Cookout was organized as an appreciation for all the work they do on the front lines on the community.

“Today is Labor Day so we said ‘Why not labor for them?’, and the community stepped up really big. We had tons of donations from Jackson State, Latham’s BBQ, Baker Brothers, Central Distributors, Pepsi. It was so many responders and we’re so thankful and appreciative. It was a lot of private donors that were like…’We understand, what it’s about, you don’t have to mention us, but we love the cause’, ” said Johnathan Parker, owner of 1st Step Fitness.

Parker tells us this collaborative initiative brings the best feeling, and support to those who are essential workers that may feel forgotten during the holiday.

“I know what it feels like to have to work on a holiday. We’re out serving and protecting while you’re out enjoying your family, so I said you know what…it would be a great day and a great way to just say thank you from first step fitness to say hey we appreciate what you do,” said Parker.

Leaders with 1st Step Fitness said you get to the finish line quicker when you recognize those serving your community first.

“It’s a task just wearing all that gear and then having to be out on patrol and things like that so once again we just want to say thank you to all first responders because we do truly appreciate you,” added Parker.

Parker said the ‘First Watch’ Responders Cookout is a something they expect to provide for years to come.
