United Way Announces the West Tennessee Story Fund

Jackson, Tenn. (Sep 9, 2025) – United Way of West Tennessee is excited to announce the West Tennessee Story Fund – a monthly giving program dedicated to fueling literacy programs within the organization’s 15-county service area.

Over half of West Tennessee third graders are not reading on grade level. To help address this issue, each person’s monthly donation directly supports local literacy initiatives like All Star Readers, The READ Team, WOW Wagon, Hub City Baby, Storybook Trails, Little Free Libraries, and the West TN Regional Literacy Consortium. These programs put books in children’s hands, connect families with literacy resources, and ensure communities in West Tennessee have access to the tools needed for lifelong learning.

“When you join the West Tennessee Story Fund, you are not just giving — you are investing in futures,” said Legon Roberson, Director of Grants Management and Special Projects. “You’re helping children discover the joy of reading, empowering parents to read with their children, and strengthening the foundation for success in school, work, and life.”

Monthly gifts provide a steady, reliable source of funding that allows United Way to plan, respond quickly to needs, and sustain programs year-round. Each person’s consistent support helps:

  • Deliver thousands of free books directly to children and families.
  • Provide early literacy tools for new parents, encouraging reading from day one.
  • Create literacy-rich environments in neighborhoods and rural communities.

The program offers five sponsorship levels: $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100. Donors can choose one of these levels or specify a customized amount that works best for them. Donations can be made at uwwt.org/storyfund

Bring the joy and power of reading to children in our region. Every dollar turns the page toward stronger literacy, brighter futures, and lifelong opportunity. For more info, contact lroberson@unitedway.tn.org.
