City of Lexington’s election day begins Thursday
LEXINGTON, Tenn. — An important election day for one of our local cities begins Thursday.
We went to the Henderson County Election Commission Wednesday morning to speak to the administrator of election, robin powers, about the city of Lexington’s election day Thursday.
“The polls will open at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning and close at 7 p.m. tomorrow night. If you don’t know where to vote, you can give us a call or go to govotetn.gov and it will tell you where to find your voting precinct,” said Robin Powers, administrator of elections for Henderson County.
It is important that you know where your precinct is located. You are not allowed to vote at the election commission office. That location was only available for early voting, which Powers says went well.
“We had a heavy turnout for early voting. More than the last couple of elections. There’s a lot of interest with the mayor’s race and some other alderman races being on the ballot,” said Powers.
No matter what, the city of Lexington will have a new mayor. Current mayor, Jeff Griggs, decided to not run for reelection. Andy Anderson and Gordon Wildridge are the two candidates.
Instead, Mayor Griggs is running for the position 5 alderman spot. Powers tells us what you need to bring to the polls.
“A state or federal issued photo ID. *butted* if you’re ready, present your drivers license or federal id. We have the e-poll books. They’ll scan your drivers licnese and they’ll issue you the ballot,” said Powers.
There are also 4 school board positions on the ballot. If you would like to know where your precinct is, click here.
