Residents learn cotton production strategies during annual tour
JACKSON, Tenn. — Residents got a chance to learn the latest cotton production strategies during the annual cotton tour.
This free, in-person field day is open to farmers, consultants, ag-business professionals, and others involved in Tennessee’s cotton industry.
Attendees took part in guided wagon tours of active field trials, where researchers and extension specialists presented findings and recommendations on variety testing and performance, defoliation timing, and cover crop practices.
“Today we are talking about some of the most recent research results – some of those results are just collected within the past several weeks or months. So this is just an opportunity to take everyone in the industry that is involved in cotton through and show them what we’re doing, and hopefully help them have the tools that they need to have a successful, productive year,” said Tyson Raper, cotton and small grains specialist with UT Extension.
Attendees received pesticide re-certification and certified crop adviser points for attending, in addition to a complimentary lunch at the conclusion of the tour.
