Tips for managing asthma as September marks peak season

JACKSON, Tenn. — The September asthma peak is on the way – it’s the most challenging month to live with asthma.

People with asthma and allergies are exposed to several triggers in September.

Ragweed, the most common fall pollen allergy, is highest in September in the United States.

Mold counts go up as leaves collect outside. Children return to school and may catch respiratory infections.

Flu and cold season is starting too.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) offers tips for people with asthma – especially as the September peak approaches.

“Understand what your triggers are, and what the right kinds of medication are that you could be on because, certainly, asthma is different for different people and people have different allergies,” said Kenneth Mendez, President & CEO of AAFA.

Follow your asthma action plan to keep your asthma under control. Get vaccines for respiratory infections such as influenza, COVID-19, RSV, and pneumonia.

Manage your allergies and your indoor air quality.
