Melba was a long time member of the First Baptist Church- Bemis, TN. Even though she could not hear, she was faithful to watch her church every Sunday on television. At First Baptist, she was very active over the years in the kitchen, choir, nursery, and various other supportive activities. Some commented that they could hear her singing to the babies as she cared for them. Aaron and Melba loved the Keenagers (senior adults) and the various outings and trips, including the Smoky Mountains and Branson Missouri.
Her daily Bible readings were a regular activity in her life. In her last days, she was reading through the Book of James.
Melba was a devoted employee for over 30 years at American Olean Tile. Long-time friends were made at work including Larry and Frances Hopper. Also, she became close to Sarah Maness, who kept in constant contact.
Another source of friends was the Overton Park neighborhood in South Jackson. She was a part of a community of friends who met regularly and contributed money for people in the local area.
Melba enjoyed writing and even in her last days was writing in a notebook. She also enjoyed short walks around the house with Biscuit at her side. Sometimes she would sing to her family canine friend.
Words cannot sufficiently express the positive love and legacy she has left her family and friends.
Any expression of condolences may be made in memory of her to the First Baptist Church of Bemis. The family sincerely appreciates these expressions of kindness, love, and prayers.
