Awareness raised on rare condition impacting patients’ quality of life
JACKSON, Tenn. — Immune thrombocytopenia, or ITP, is a rare condition that occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys healthy platelets in the blood.
More than 25,000 U.S. adults are living with chronic ITP.
September marks the national awareness of this disease and creates an opportunity to increase understanding and support for patients, caregivers, and loved ones.
The condition can significantly impact patients’ quality of life.
“These awareness months are good just to bring positive attention to patients who have the condition, people who need better options, maybe people out there who have bleeding or bruising and maybe don’t have an answer for why they’re having this kind of symptom,” said Dr. Amit R. Mehta.
Recently, Wayrilz was approved by the FDA as a novel treatment for ITP.
