‘Butterfly Embrace’ lantern memorial set for Oct. 5 in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — A special program at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital is having another one of their yearly events.
There is a program at the local hospital in Jackson that helps families who have experienced some of the most heartbreaking circumstances.
Leighann Sutton, with the team, tells us more.
“We are a bereavement program in Jackson General hospital. We serve families when they experience a death of a baby or child,” Sutton said.
Each year, they hold a memorial service for all of the families that have been a part of their program during that calendar year. However, to mark 10 years of the program, they will be inviting every family who has been involved throughout their history.
“So we are inviting almost 2,000 people that have come through our program,” said Sutton. “So we expect a large crowd. We encourage everyone to register so that we’ll have the exact numbers. But we would love for all of our families to come out and be a part of this.”
The event is Sunday, October 5, starting at 4:30 p.m. at Madison Downs. Sutton tells us more about what you can expect.
“We will have activities for children to participate in and just kind of have a way for them to acknowledge some of their emotions and their needs,” said Sutton. “We will also have food trucks so you can have some great meals. We will also have some time for families to connect with each other and share stories and kind of support each other through that.”
Each family will decorate a lantern, say their child’s name out loud, and release the lantern out on the pond.
