High-speed pursuit ends in crash, arrest in Gibson County, police say

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CROCKETT COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT:

ALAMO, Tenn. – The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office reports a significant incident that occurred on West Church Street in Alamo involving a fleeing suspect and multiple law enforcement agencies.

On September 18, 2025, our Chief Deputy Eric Uselton radioed that he encountered a female pedestrian in the road on West Church Street and stopped to render aid. Another deputy near the scene and upon hearing the radio traffic, observed a male suspect driving a red Dodge Dakota who was fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.

Deputies quickly intercepted the driver near the National Guard Armory in Alamo; however, the suspect, identified as Wesley Barrett, refused to stop.
A pursuit ensued along Highway 54 North, with the assistance of the Bells Police Department and Alamo Police Department, who promptly responded to help.

Mutual aid was also provided by the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office, West Tennessee Drug Task Force, and Trenton Police Department.

During the pursuit, the suspect attempted a U-turn just prior to entering the Trenton city limits and struck two patrol cars. Barrett was subsequently taken into custody without further incident. A Bells Police officer sustained injuries as a result of the crash and was treated by Gibson County EMS at the scene.

Additionally, the injured female pedestrian on West Church Street received medical treatment from Crockett County EMS and was flown to the nearest trauma center for further evaluation. The Tennessee Highway Patrol has been requested to respond to the crash involving the suspect’s vehicle and the patrol cars. The incident remains under investigation, and multiple agencies are involved in the ongoing efforts.

In an unrelated incident, as Sheriff Klyce and other law enforcement officers were processing the crime scene on West Church Street, they observed two males begin assaulting each other nearby. Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) quickly intercepted the situation, and a foot chase ensued. THP, along with Alamo Police and Sheriff Klyce, succeeded in apprehending one male, identified as AJ Johnson from Lauderdale County, who had two active warrants.

Sheriff Troy Klyce and the Crockett County Sheriff’s Office extend their gratitude to all agencies involved for their swift response and cooperation in rendering aid to the victim and in the successful apprehension of the suspects.
