Jackson AMP celebrates hard work of long term co-chairs

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson’s AMP advisory board surprised two of their own with a commemoration earlier Thursday.

Retired AMP advisory board co-chairs Jimmy Exum and Jerry Gay are stepping away after 12 years of growing the live music scene here in Jackson.

The private event culminated with a presentation of a plaque for the hard work these two men have put into the amp over the course of its existence.

“It’s nice to be recognized, but we did it for downtown and for Jackson as a quality of life,” said Exum.

The two men never expected The AMP to become the landmark it is today.

“I figured it would take about three years, and it took about three shows instead of three years,” said Gay.

It’s not just about the events at the amp, but the inflow of people to downtown Jackson for these events also is a boost to the local economy.

“If you’d have asked me what I think the best feeling with this thing is when you can stand up there and look at the crowd and there’s all walks of life here,” said Gay.

The two were told they would be helping out with a history project today. Little did Exum and Gay know they would be the centerpiece of the project.

Jackson’s own LOLO will be the headliner for the final show at The AMP this summer.  That show is set for Friday night with the music starting at 7:30 pm
