Jackson-Madison DAR kicks off ‘Bells Across America’ to celebrate signing of U.S. Constitution
JACKSON, Tenn. — This week is designated as constitution week, and one organization is celebrating with and annual event.
Jackson-Madison Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution commemorates National Constitution Week Thursday with the annual ringing of bells at first Presbyterian Church in Jackson.
“Bells Across America” celebrates the signing of the U. S. Constitution on September 17, 1787.
Organizers say the constitution is a key document in the founding of our country.
“[The] constitution’s everything to us. It promotes our historical preservation, education and patriotism that our organization stands for. We want every school-age child to know what the constitution says and what it means,” said Jeanita Hicks, regent for Jackson-Madison chapter DAR.
The Jackson-Madison Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in June 1901, and is one of the oldest and most active chapters in the state of Tennessee.
Constitution Week is celebrated annually September 17-23.
