Principal surprised with ‘pink parade’ for conquering chemotherapy

JACKSON, Tenn. — Pink filled the gym Friday as one school district honored a local principal’s fight against cancer.

A super top secret surprise for was organized in honor of Dr. Kim Quinn, principal of Northeast Middle School in Jackson.

Dr. Quinn has been undergoing chemotherapy for the last few months. Next week marks her final treatment.

To commemorate this special milestone, students and faculty gathered for a “pink parade” in her honor.

“It did not matter if she was sick or not, she is showing up everyday,” said Brittanie Doaks, Assistant Principal at Northeast Middle. “She is here. She has got a smile on her face. I think she really shows us what it means to be a fighter.”

The theme of this event was “Her fight is our fight.”

Several staff members, SROs, and even students took to the floor to express their appreciation and support for Dr. Quinn.

During this ceremony, Dr. Quinn rung the bell signifying the completion of chemotherapy. She also shared her reaction to the overwhelming support.

“It makes what I’m going through a little bit easier to know that I have this many people supporting me, and so, again, I’m overwhelmed in this particular moment just with the amount of people who have shown love through this entire process,” Dr. Quinn said.

For 11 years, Dr. Quinn has been a principal in the school system, and she says showing up is just what she does.
