McNairy County Register of Deeds Warns Residents About Fraudulent Letters

Selmer, Tenn. (Sept. 19, 2025) – The McNairy County Register of Deeds Office is warning property owners to remain vigilant after reports of fraudulent letters circulating in the county.

Several residents have received mail from an entity calling itself the “Clerk’s Property Office,” using a Nashville return address. The letters request a large payment in exchange for a copy of the recipient’s property deed. These documents contain property-specific details and are deliberately designed to appear official.

The Register of Deeds Office stresses that these solicitations are not affiliated with McNairy County or any government agency.

“Property owners should be aware that our office provides copies of deeds directly and at a minimal cost,” said Register of Deeds Brian Dickey. “There is no need to pay a third party for these records. We strongly encourage residents to contact our office with any questions before responding to such solicitations.”

Deeds may be obtained through the McNairy County Register of Deeds Office. Residents with concerns or questions are urged to call the office at 731-645-3656.

The McNairy County Register of Deeds Office records, preserves, and provides access to public records related to real property transactions in McNairy County. The office is committed to maintaining the integrity of the county’s land records while ensuring transparency and accessibility for all residents.
