Community Montessori joins in on ‘Pinwheels for Peace’ project
JACKSON, Tenn. — Community Montessori School held a special event for the upcoming celebration of the International Day of Peace.
The International Day of Peace is observed every year on September 21 to honor a hope of committing to peace.
Community Montessori in west Jackson participates in the Pinwheels for Peace project to showcase art made by students that expresses the need and hope for peace.
“It is the 3rd year that our school has participated in this project and the hopes are that children and our school are able to create something and a vision for the community that expresses their hopes for peace in the future,” said Callie Dollar, teacher.
Students were given a pinwheel to decorate to show what peace may mean to them or to show their feelings about what is going on in the world. Beatrice Sutton, a 4th grade student at Community Montessori School, voices that she is glad to see everyone bond together and design unique art.
“We are all just putting aside our differences and just making art and putting it together out here and we are just coming together with our art,” said Sutton.
Sutton also expressed that she enjoyed decorating her pinwheel and how peace day is approaching this upcoming Sunday.
“Today is a very special day for us to celebrate peace because Peace Day is coming on Sunday so our school is celebrating it today,” said Sutton.
Community Montessori School hopes they are a model for peace and they can bring peace to the community. To learn more about the Pinwheels for Peace Project, click here.
