Man faces multiple charges following cross-county police chase; 2 left injured
CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — Authorities are investigating after a high-speed chase ends in a crash and arrest in Gibson county.
According to Crockett County Public Information Officer Stephen Sutton, the suspect in custody, 46-year-old Wesley Barrett, has a prior criminal history.
We also spoke with District Attorney Frederick Agee who will be following this investigation.
“This matter is still under investigation. There’s multiple law enforcement agencies involved. It’s my understanding that one civilian vehicle has been taken in to be processed. Law enforcement investigators are interviewing witnesses and they’re still trying to figure out exactly what happened,” said Agee.
Thursday, Chief Deputy Eric Uselton with the Crockett County sheriff’s department observed a injured pedestrian in critical condition around West Church Street. Upon administering aid to the pedestrian, a nearby deputy spotted the fleeing vehicle observed as suspect Wesley Barret driving a red Dodge Dakota.

Deputies quickly intercepted Barrett near the National Guard Armory in Alamo; however Barrett, refused to stop. A pursuit then ensued along Highway 54 North.
During the pursuit, Barrett attempted a U-turn just prior to entering the Trenton city limits and struck two patrol cars. Barrett was subsequently taken into custody without further incident.
Chief Kevin Ligon with the Bells Police Department tells us the officer involved was treated and released with minor injuries. Sutton tells us what happened moments before the pursuit reached Trenton city limits.
“He tried to turn around into the road and when he did he basically ran into the officer. All the police officers have been dealing with him their entire careers,” said Sutton.
According to authorities, the pedestrian is still in critical condition and Barrett is being charged with two counts of reckless endangerment, driving with a suspended license, evading arrest by motor vehicle, and evading arrest causing serious injury to a law enforcement officer.
At this time, Barrett remains in custody at the Crockett County Jail.
