Crockett County hit-and-run suspect arrested

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE DYERSBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT:

DPD Officer Arrests Crockett County Hit-and-Run Suspect

DYERSBURG – Dyersburg Police Department Officer Melissa Woodall arrested a Dyersburg man suspected of fleeing a hit-and-run collision in Crockett County.

Antonio Darnell Swift, 43, is also facing a charge of felony possession of marijuana because of her traffic stop, according to the police report.

While patrolling Highway 51 Bypass near Forrest Street, Woodall observed a white Ford Ranger pickup truck with significant front-end damage. This damage matched the description of the truck involved in the hit-and-run reported in Crockett County earlier.

Woodall stopped the truck after confirming the hit-and-run suspect vehicle’s description, according to the report. During the stop, she smelled marijuana coming from inside the truck and found nearly two ounces of marijuana inside.

Dyersburg Police Chief Thomas Langford praised Woodall for her attention to detail in solving the case.

“Officer Woodall did an excellent job on this case,” he said. “She recalled the relevant information and used it to make the investigative stop. She also made her own felony case.”

The Crockett County deputy working the crash contacted Woodall to continue his investigation. Swift will be arraigned in Dyersburg Court at 4 p.m. today. It is unknown whether or not the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department has charges against Swift.
