Fatality reported in multi-vehicle crash on I-40

UPDATE (1:55 p.m.) — THP says there were two different wrecks next to each other, all involved commercial vehicles. The first wreck happened with the oversized load (pictured below). THP says it appears when it crashed, it caused two other commercial vehicles behind it to try and avoid the wreck, but in the process they hit each other. There is one fatality confirmed. 


HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Interstate lanes are back open after being blocked Monday morning.

According to the Henderson County Fire Department, east bound lanes of Interstate 40 in Henderson County, near mile marker 98, were shut down around 8:44 a.m.

Traffic information from the Tennessee Department of Transportation shows that a multi-vehicle crash was reported around 8:27 a.m.

A photo shared by the fire department showed an oversized load stretched fully across the lane.

The fire department shared that all lanes reopened by approximately 12:20 p.m.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirms a fatality is involved, however no further details have been released.
