Break-in at residence of deceased citizen leads to arrest, police say

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE CROCKETT COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE:

CROCKETT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office is saddened to report a troubling burglary of a residence belonging to a deceased individual. This incident not only adds to the pain of a grieving family but also highlights a disturbing act of shamelessness and boldness by the suspect.

The initial offense occurred on Monday, September 21, 2025, when a suspect unlawfully entered the home of the deceased, attempting to steal.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division began an investigation. After the initial incident, the family installed hidden security cameras inside the residence.
The suspect returned again last night and the pictures from the hidden cameras helped us identify the suspect.

Due to the quick response and cooperation of the family, Cody Sharp (DOB: 5/17/1991) was taken into custody within an hour. He is now charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Aggravated Burglary (2 counts)
  • Burglary of a Motor Vehicle
  • Burglary of a Building
  • Theft of Property (2 counts)
  • Vandalism

Sheriff Troy N. Klyce stated,

“This reprehensible act not only disrespects the deceased but also adds additional pain for the family during an already devastating time. We are committed to holding these criminals accountable and will work tirelessly to ensure justice is served. As a result of proactive law enforcement officers, cooperative citizens, cameras all across our county, and victims willing to cooperate with law enforcement – we will continue to fight the criminals who wish to disrupt the peace in our county. This case proves that our citizens are much smarter than the criminals”!
