Gov. Lee provides update on National Guard deployment to Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Governor Bill Lee provided an update on the National Guard deployment in Memphis.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee along with other law enforcement personnel spoke at the Tennessee Highway Patrol headquarters in Memphis to provide insight into the national guard’s deployment.

This operation, called the Memphis Safe Task Force is carried out by the U.S marshals and has come together over the last several weeks.

The mayor of Memphis, Paul Young, has two goals for the city and is ready to ensure that as resources come into the community they are used effectively and for the benefit of the residents of the city.

“Goals that we have as a city as we go through this is: Number one, we want to make sure we are building on existing strategies that have demonstrated success. Number two, we want to make sure as we go through this process we maintain the continuity of services to the public,” said Mayor Young.

Here are currently 13 agencies joining the National Guard including the FBI, DEA and ATF.

Governor Lee says that these agencies are more of an assistance to the local law enforcements and that soon crime is going to be history in the city.

“The story of crime in Memphis is about to be a story of the past and that is what we need it to be,” said Governor Lee.
