September 29 is World Heart Day

JACKSON, Tenn. — September 29 is recognized as World Heart Day.

It is designed to be an opportunity to ignite the conversations about heart health.

Heart failure is one of America’s most pressing health issues. It is the leading cause of hospitalizations for people over the age of 65. It can also cause more than 400,000 deaths per year.

We spoke with an expert regarding heart failure.

“That can be caused by many different factors such as high blood pressure, prior heart attacks, infections of the heart, and genetic disorders,” said Dr. Finn Gustafsson, Chief Medical Officer, Abbott’s Heart Failure Division. “So it is really just a multitude of things that can lead to this weakened heart.”

Currently, there is un fortunately no known cure at this time.
