St. Luke’s Episcopal Church hosts its blessing service

JACKSON, Tenn.–A local church takes time to honor some very special members of the family.

St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jackson offered a special service Sunday.

In honor of St. Francis and all creatures great or small, the church provided a blessing service for animals.

Church members and members from the community were invited to bring their pets to the church for the event.

Participants could even bring along a photo or stuffed toy to represent those animals unable to travel.

Times were set aside for a special blessing to be prayed over all the pets.

“We probably had thirty to forty pets in the church and in the pews with us. Every now and then they’d talk back and have a little fun but it’s always such a great moment to unite those pets that we love. They are a part of our families. To bring them into our faith family I think it was really well received. This was St. Luke’s first time to have them inside,” said Jessie Perkins, Director at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

There were two opportunities to participate in the blessing. One service was held at 10:30 a.m. and another held outside in Mary Garden at 2 in the afternoon.

The event also honored the memories of pets who have passed away.

St Luke’s Episcopal Church used the opportunity to collect donations of food for the Jackson Animal Care Center as well.
