Nursing home employees under investigation after alleged financial misconduct
OBION COUNTY, Tenn. — A developing story out of Obion County, a nursing home finds some evidence of financial misconduct.
Some employees at the Obion County nursing and rehab center are under investigation following a recent audit.
The board and administration of the center have taken steps to secure the records to aid in the investigation.
Obion County Mayor Steve Carr tells us that the missing funds were involved in Medicare and Medicaid.
“The findings are disturbing in that there’s evidence of some major impropriety on salaries being paid and money that is going out from the nursing home and we’re talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars,” said Carr.
State officials with the state comptroller’s office will assist in the review of the financial investigation. Mayor Carr has not specified who will lead the investigation or provided any details from the audit.
Obion County will be releasing information from the investigation as it becomes available.
“So the board and I have made sure that staff is prepared and they’ve been informed of what needs to be done, and they’ve stepped up and are taking care of day-to-day operations of the nursing home and we’ll also be consulting with another administrator about moving forward in the coming days,” said Carr.
At this time, no charges have been filed and the employees under investigation have been placed on unpaid leave.
The Obion County Nursing Home and Rehab Center will continue operating as the mayor says its residents are its top priority.
