BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and one nonprofit is helping flatten the curve.

The Women and Men’s Resource and Rape Assistance Program (WRAP) and One Safe Place held a “pancake proclamation” at the Haywood Parks and Recreation Center in Brownsville.

They provided the community with a buffet of pancakes, bacon, and more breakfast favorites.

We spoke with Sexual Assault Response Specialist at WRAP of Haywood County, Candice Sanders, on the turn out.

“Like Mayor Rawls said, we just appreciate our community coming out in full force,” Sanders said. “It was packed in here today. We’re just grateful that everyone showed up for survivors. And also we dedicated this year’s proclamation to Ellie Young, who was murdered last year at Shelby Farms. She’s from Lauderdale County, and we just lift up her memory today.”

Wrap is a nonprofit agency that serves victims and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.
