MAN CONVICTED OF AGGRAVATED RAPE AND MORE
Tobias Hodge faces a maximum sentence of up to 64 years
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. (October 10, 2025) – After a three-day jury trial in the Humboldt Law Court of Gibson County, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, a jury found 21-year-old Tobias Hodge guilty of the following crimes:
- Aggravated Rape
- Attempted Rape
- Aggravated Assault
- Especially Aggravated Burglary
- Theft of Property Two Counts
- False Imprisonment
- Interference with Emergency Communications
During the early morning of March 1, 2024, Hodge left his residence on McDearmon Avenue in Humbolt armed with a serrated kitchen knife. He walked to a residence on North Street where two females resided. At the North Street residence, Hodge forcefully entered the home through the kitchen window. After entering the residence, Hodge entered a bedroom and used the knife to stab the 25-year-old victim multiple times. While attacking the 25-year-old victim, Hodge was confronted by the 19-year-old victim where he then forced her back into her bedroom and proceeded to rape her. Hodge attempted to also rape the 25-year-old victim but was unsuccessful. At 5:44am, Hodge coerced the 19-year-old against her will to drive him to his residence on McDearmon Avenue where he remained until law enforcement took him into custody later that day.
The case was prosecuted by District Attorney General Frederick H. Agee and Assistant District Attorney Nina Seiler. Hodge faces a maximum of up to 64 years in the Tennessee Department of Correction.
“We want to thank the Jury for their service and thorough deliberation,” said Frederick Agee, District Attorney General for the 28th Judicial District. “This was a violent case where the victims were perpetrated in their own home. We hope that the victims and their families have some sense of justice. We know that the victims’ young lives are forever changed, and we pray that they can heal physically, mentally, and emotionally. As long I have the honor of serving as District Attorney, we will continue to focus on removing people like this Defendant from our communities. Lasty, I am very proud of our staff because this case was efficiently prosecuted in 19 months.”
The outcome of this case required cooperation from multiple agencies. The District Attorney General’s office thanks DA Investigator Jimmy Wilson, DA Victim Witness Coordinator Carol Oliver, Humboldt Police Chief Kenny Rich, Johnny Powell, Officer Jonnie Yarbrough, Officer Zachary Smith, Investigators Jonathan Wilson, Investigator Tony Williams, Registered Nurse Catherine Woodard, TBI Special Agent Elizabeth Reid, TBI Special Agent Militza Kennedy, and Jerry Privitt of the Humboldt Area Rescue Squad.
The Honorable Clayburn Peeples is scheduled to sentence Hodge on Monday, November 24, 2025, in the Humboldt Law Court of Gibson County.
