Hub City Theatre Company to present ‘Misery’
PRESS RELEASE:
Hub City Theatre Company Presents Misery — A Heart-Stopping Psychological Thriller
Jackson, TN — Hub City Theatre Company is proud to present Misery, the stage adaptation of Stephen King’s chilling novel, in an unforgettable theatrical experience at The Carnegie Center for Arts and History in downtown Jackson. Performances run October 17–26 in the intimate Carnegie Basement, promising audiences a spine-tingling evening of suspense and terror.
“Chills. … I got chills even before adding costumes, lighting, sound, or special effects!” says Director Alfred Custer, describing the visceral excitement of bringing Misery to life even as early as auditions. “One of the best aspects of a truly scary story is the anticipation that comes with having just enough information for your brain to switch to ‘high alert.’”
This production delivers that exact experience — the electrifying mix of fear and fascination that defines great horror.

Artistic Vision
Hub City Theatre Company is known for its “odd shows in intimate spaces,” and Misery fits perfectly into that mission. The Carnegie Basement’s closeness to the action immerses audiences in every sound, breath, and heartbeat.
Composer Ben Trainor has created an original score blending two recordings—one from 1801 and another over 150 years later—to heighten the tension and surrealism that make Misery an enduring horror classic.
“As a director,” Custer explains, “I knew the production would be great because I got chills even before adding costumes, lighting, sound, or special effects. Whether you’re a die-hard Stephen King fan or a horror novice, Hub City Theatre Company’s Misery is the show for you. I can guarantee you’ll get chills.”
