Crown Winery hosts fundraiser for ‘Dogs On Deployment’
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — Crown Winery in Humboldt hosted a fundraiser Friday evening for the nonprofit Dogs On Deployment.
The organization helps find loving homes for pets of military personnel while they are on deployment. Many times servicemembers are called to serve the country and have nowhere for their pets to go while they are deployed.
Additionally, service members often are tasked with paying fees up to $2,000 or $3,000 in order to bring their pet with them when they are moved from being stationed at overseas locations to a new station in the United States. The funds raised by Dogs on Deployment are used to provide assistance for service members to pay the fees to bring their pets to their new base with them or to pay for medical costs or procedures the service member needs for their pet.
Dogs on Deployment provides loving homes to the pets of these servicemembers for free to the servicemember. Despite the name, they also assist with cats and other pets for the soldiers.
The event was intended for more than just raising funds. It also included raising awareness about how individuals can become involved and help board pets for deployed service members.
Live music was provided by at the event by one of West Tennessee’s rising recording artists, Lakelin Lemmings.
Lemmings did this performance for no cost to the organization or Crown Winery.
“Dogs On Deployment helps us with boarding our dogs while we’re deployed or go to military school, or go on AT’s or if we have like what we had, a disaster of some sort, where we can’t keep our animals,” said SFC Brent Carlson, Tennessee Army National Guard.
Carlson’s dog, Nala is the 2025 mascot for Dogs On Deployment.
Giveaways were held periodically with prizes available such as a Smart TV, gift certificates and wine-themed items.
