Update issued regarding AES explosion investigation

The following update was released at 4:40 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 by Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with Hickman County Emergency Management Agency.

“A controlled disposal is scheduled for 5pm. Black smoke will be seen and a detonation may be heard.— with Hickman County Emergency Management Agency .”

The following update was released at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11 by Humphreys County Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with Hickman County Emergency Management Agency.

“October 11, 1:00pm –
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation. Due to the significant debris and potential presence of explosive materials, response operations are progressing slowly and methodically. Controlled detonations will be conducted periodically at the site to safely dispose of unstable or hazardous materials. Nearby residents may hear or feel these detonations as they occur. Local officials will provide at least 30 minutes’ notice through their social media channel prior to each controlled explosion.”
