Former deputy accused of killing dogs pleads guilty to animal cruelty
SELMER, Tenn. — We have additional news regarding the former sheriff’s deputy facing 15 felony charges in McNairy County.
Recent comments from the former McNairy County Sheriff Deputy under a now deleted post on Facebook claim he has been cleared of the 15 felony charges.
Connor James Brackin was charged with seven counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and eight counts of reckless endangerment.
PREVIOUS COVERAGE:
A TBI news release states that in McNairy County on November 4, 2024, Brackin fired his duty weapon, shooting and killing seven dogs after responding to an animal welfare call.
Another Facebook comment asked Brackin if he killed the dogs. He responded by saying: “Yep. Because my sergeant told me to.”
There was a second comment that Brackin made claiming he was cleared. He also responded with a picture to another comment asking if he killed the dogs. However, it is unclear what is in the picture.
Despite all of this, Brackin appeared in court Monday morning, where he pled guilty to two of the reckless endangerment charges and four of the animal cruelty charges.
He is being fined $500 per charge and will have to take 16 hours of an animal cruelty class.
However, Brackin was granted judicial diversion. This means he will be on state supervised probation. If he completes this, his charges can be expunged.
We previously learned that Brackin resigned in lieu of termination from the Jackson Police Department, and again a few months later from the McNairy County Sheriff’s Office. With JPD, he fired his service weapon on two separate occasions — one of which resulted in the loss of life.
The Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission recommended that Brackin lose his Tennessee law enforcement certificate.
