Missing woman found deceased in Hardin Co

HARDIN COUNTY, Tenn. – The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation announced that Joann McWilliams, 88, was found deceased in Hardin County.

“The white Buick Encore identified as belonging to missing Dickson resident Jo Ann McWilliams was located in the Tennessee River in Hardin County Friday morning. Law enforcement has confirmed a body was inside the vehicle and will be sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for identification,” said Todd Christian, Dickson Police Department Assistant Chief.

Christian said the vehicle was discovered in a part of the Tennessee River at the end of a road that dead ends at the river bank. A Hardin County dive team worked to remove the vehicle from the river Friday morning.

“A former Dickson realtor, McWilliams was seen Oct. 5 at a gas station in New Johnsonville buying gas and spotted on cameras on Highway 22 and in Paris, Tenn. Family members reported she was pulled over eastbound on Highway 70, but close to midnight that day a license plate reader in Lexington, Tenn., detected her vehicle.
Dickson Police Department Detective Mike Phillips reported family members were not aware of a reason that McWilliams would be in West Tennessee. Phillips said McWilliams’ cell phone was found in her home and she is believed to have left medications behind for medical conditions that could result in confusion and impairment to her cognitive abilities. Family members organized a volunteer search effort Wednesday in the areas where she was last seen,” said Christian.
