Tips for identifying and stopping scam robocalls

JACKSON, Tenn. — The Better Business Bureau is alerting us to another popular scam on the rise.

This one has to due with those never-ending robocalls that everyone seems to get. Many people receive multiple calls everyday and a lot of people may wonder why they keep getting them.

Toddnetta Trice, with the Better Business Bureau, tells us how websites may be the reason for this.

“Of course if you have given that phone number to a website that has to do with an account, or to subscribe to a service, or for verification, that site can use cookies to associate your online activity with your phone number,” said Trice.

So how can we make sure these calls quit coming? Trice gives us some tips.

“Before you enter your information on a website, search the website for complaints, reviews, or scams. See what ways there are for you to visit a website and feel comfortable enough to not have to put in your personal information,” said Trice.

You can always register your name on the Do Not Call Registry. However, the site is currently not available due to the government shutdown.

You can still report the incidents to the BBB by clicking here.
