Uncertainty remains after Trump administration says SNAP will only receive partial funding for November

JACKSON, Tenn. — It seems there’s no end to the government shutdown. It’s already affecting families who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

As the benefits were set to lapse last Friday, a federal court ordered the Trump administration to continue funding for SNAP benefits to millions of families who are at risk of facing hunger and food insecurity.

The White House says it can only provide partial funding for the SNAP program for the month of November. An economist talks about how this partial funding will affect SNAP recipients.

“This is going to be very difficult for families to be able to weather the storm. You know we have our food banks, we have churches that help out but, ultimately this falls on the federal government to provide full benefits as fast as possible,” said Gbenga Ajilore, chief economist at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

The Trump administration says it’s unsure how far the funding it’s been ordered to provide will go.
