Isolated Showers & a Few Storms on Friday, Wintry Blast Coming on Sunday into Next Week!
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update
WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:
As we discussed yesterday we didn’t have a lot of confidence in severe threat west of the Tennessee River and today the Storm Prediction Center removed West Tennessee from the slight risk (2/5) for severe storms. They did continue with a marginal risk (1/5) for areas east of Jackson with pockets of hail being the main threat. The latest forecast guidance is showing the most likely time for storms in that area will be between 5-10pm. Some weak storms may look to delay a game or two Friday night but most of the games will not be impacted. If you are in the green area, you might want to bring an umbrella to the games just in case you need it. A cold blast is still forecast to come our way on Sunday and 20s are still likely to kick off our mornings early next week. Catch the latest on the storms and the cold coming up here.
THIS WEEK:
A weak front passed through and stalled out on Wednesday night but it didn’t impact our weather in any way. Highs still reached the mid 70s with mostly sunny skies during our Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. The winds could shifted back to the south on Thursday as the front lifted back through to the north of us. Thursday morning lows fell to the mid 40s and Thursday highs again reached the low to mid 70s. Clouds will look to move back in Thursday night and stick around on Friday. Thursday night will be warm and a nit humid with overnight lows falling down to the mid 50s is all.
The next system that will bring noticeable chances to West Tennessee and the Mid South is coming in on Friday. The low pressure system and cold front will bring showers and storms with it. We are under a level 1 (marginal risk) for potential severe storms as of now east of Jackson. That could change over the next 24 hours as the system gets a little closer and we have a better idea of where the highest amounts of energy from the system is going to be located. Some of the showers and storms might be impacting the football games on Friday night but the further west you are, the more likely the rain will not show up or that it will have wrapped up before kick off of the games. Highs on Friday will reach the low to mid 70s before the showers start and Friday night lows will drop down to around 50°.
THE WEEKEND:
The weekend weather forecast is a bit tricky as we are expecting the cold front that sparked up the rain on Friday to move through on Saturday. Depending on the timing of the Saturday front we could hit the low 70s or only reach the 60s. as of now we are not expecting the front to show up until Saturday night. We will see a few showers and maybe a couple weak storms late on Saturday as the front passes but we are not expecting much if we see any rain at all from the front passing. We are going to be much cooler on Sunday and into Monday next week. Saturday night lows are forecast to be in the mid 40s as some clouds are still expected to be hanging around. Sunday highs will reach the low 50s at best and Sunday night will fall back down near or below freezing around 30°. Expect a mostly sunny but cool day on Sunday and mostly clear skies Sunday night into Monday morning.
NEXT WEEK:
The coldest weather by fall this fall is coming early next week. Highs on Monday may only reach the mid 40s and Monday night lows will drop as low as the mid 20s. We should see sunny skies on Monday but it is going to be cold. By Tuesday, highs will climb back into the mid 50s. There is even a chance for a few flurries early next week but we are not confident in that scenario playing out at this time but it will be worth keeping an eye on later in the week. The greatest chances for flurries or very minor snow accumulations is looking like areas near the Kentucky Lake at this time. Highs will warm back up into the mid 60s by next Wednesday.
