City of Jackson’s Draft Safety Action Plan now available for public review
JACKSON, Tenn. — The City of Jackson has laid out its Draft Safety Action Plan. This plan describes ways to reduce serious injury and fatal crashes on city streets.

It includes different types of transportation ranging from cars and trucks to bikes, pedestrians, and any other vehicles using city streets.

After five years of examining crash data, roughly 14,000 accidents occurred in the city.
According to the plan, the top three driver behavior concerns from the public consisted of distracted driving, red light running and speeding. There were also concerns of unsafe intersections, poor roadway design and insufficient law enforcement.
With these concerns, the plan suggests adding a sidewalk and increasing traffic enforcement.
The City of Jackson says the main goal of this plan is to address the concerns residents have.
“The goal of this plan is really to gather information and help us to know what types of activities or safety concerns the city has, so that we can address those appropriately,” said Hannah Mathis, transportation planner with the City of Jackson.
The plan is up for review and to share comments from Thursday until November 19. To view the entire Draft Safety Action Plan, click here.
