Food drive held in Brownsville for SNAP beneficiaries

BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. — One community is coming together to support those in need.

Thursday, the City of Brownsville and Haywood County citizens took part in donating non-perishable food items to support SNAP beneficiaries in the county. The drive took place at Tamm Park.

41.8% of Haywood County residents rely on SNAP benefits, so to help, Hayden Hooper stepped up by posting a flyer on Facebook asking for donations.

“It has been fantastic. Haywood county really is a generous county and everybody wants to help. When I put the world out they were like where do I come, when, what could I give,” said Hooper, organizer.

“In a small community like Brownsville Tennessee and Haywood County, we are better together. We come together to take care of each other so today you see an example of that. Just a simple citizen say hey let’s come out and donate some canned goods and some dry goods for people in who may be in need,” said Mayor William Rawls, Brownsville.

They will be distributing the goods to Haywood County families who are SNAP beneficiaries next Monday. Updates will be posted on the city of Brownsville website and on Brownsville radio.
