Delaina Meadows is a dual endorsed Pre-K teacher at East Hardin Elementary School in Savannah.

She tells us what the role of a dual endorsed Pre-K teacher is.

“We look to see what prerequisite skills that they are lacking, because if they’re struggling in one area, that means that they have not picked up the skill necessary to be successful in that area,” Meadows said.

She has been at East Hardin for three years.

Meadows shares how at a young age, she always knew education was the place for her.

“I think I always knew I wanted to be a teacher,” she said. “I used to make my little sister sit and listen to my lessons when we were really little.”

She also says it’s important to know how to help Pre-K children succeed, because they are very impressionable at that age.

“Early childhood education sets a foundation for their entire life, not just their life in school, but their life for the rest of their life,” Meadows said. “So it sets the foundation for success, and we need to establish lifelong learners at this age so that they don’t struggle when they’re older.”

She also says the Hope Scholarship program was crucial in providing for her two daughters.

“I know a lot about the Tennessee Hope Scholarship, not because I was a recipient of it, because I went to school a long time ago, but both of my daughters have been recipients of the Tennessee Hope Scholarship, and without it, we would not have been able to afford to send them to school.”

She ends by expressing her gratitude for winning Educator of the Week.

“I’m overwhelmed and grateful. I love my job, and I love my babies,” she said. “I feel like that’s what I was made to do, is teach these kids.”

Meadows is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
