TnAchieves, West TN Healthcare team up for job shadowing tour for students

JACKSON, Tenn. — One local company and an organization hosted a job shadowing tour for students. The tour gave perspectives on different career options and job opportunities.

TnAchieves and West Tennessee Healthcare held a job shadowing tour for Tennessee Promise students.

Tennessee Promise is a scholarship enabling students to study at an eligible school for a maximum of five semesters at a community college, four-year college, or for eight trimesters at a TCAT.

One of tnAchieves’ main goals is to build Tennessee’s future work force.

“We work with students from high school seniors all the way through the completion of their associate or technical certification to ensure that they feel comfortable through every step of the process,” said Noelle Equi. “Make sure that they are enrolling in college, graduating from college, and then being placed with a job afterwards.”

Students with this program had the opportunity to tour many different departments within the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital, including the emergency department, laundry, pharmacy, and radiology.

One student expresses that she was glad she signed up for the tour to learn more about a career choice.

“I am most excited about just learning more things about the hospital in general,” said Brianna Kirby, student at Jackson State Community College. “Just to get more of a knowledge with the medicine part.”

Another student expressed that she was also glad she signed up, and is grateful for what the Tennessee Promise program has done for her.

“They’ve helped me be able to start going to school debt-free, which is a huge weight off of my shoulders,” said Rebecca Frazier, JSCC student.

The overall goal for job shadowing is to offer these students an opportunity to explore more career options within their community.

TnAchieves hosts job shadowing days in the spring and fall for students. Over the past year, more than 25 businesses in the state have hosted more than 550 students.
