WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

The fog has rolled in thick tonight in many areas in West Tennessee with calm winds and 100% humidity prevalent in many locations. Fog will last into the morning. Saturday will start out nice but it is going to get windy Saturday night as the first of two weekend fronts moves in from the west.

Sunday night lows fall fall into the 20s and the wind chill will be a factor all day Sunday and Monday dropping close to the teens by Monday morning. THIS WEEK:

The next system that will bring noticeable change to West Tennessee and the Mid South came in on Friday. The low pressure system and cold front brought some showers and storms with it. We are under a level 1 (marginal risk) for potential severe storms as of now east of Jackson but most of the concerns for severe weather are east of the Tennessee River. Some of the showers and storms might be impacting the football games on Friday night but the further west you are, the more likely the rain will not show up or that it will have wrapped up before kick off of the games. Most if not all the games should be fine, but grab an umbrella if you are east of Jackson just to be safe. Highs on Friday reached the low to mid 70s before the showers started and we should hang around 60° for the football games this evening. Friday night lows will drop down to around 50° to kick off the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

The weekend weather forecast is a bit tricky as we are expecting the cold front that sparked up the rain on Friday to move through on Saturday. Depending on the timing of the Saturday front, which we think is coming Saturday night, we should still hit the low 70s before the front shows up until Saturday night bringing gusty winds and a sharp temperature drop with it. We will see a few showers and maybe a couple weak storms late on Saturday as the front passes but we are not expecting much if we see any rain at all from the front passing.

Temperatures are going to be much cooler on Sunday and into Monday next week. Saturday night lows are forecast to be in the mid 40s as some clouds are still expected to be hanging around. Sunday highs will reach the low 50s at best and Sunday night will fall back down below freezing into the mid to upper 20s. Expect a mostly sunny but cool day on Sunday and mostly clear skies Sunday night into Monday morning.  On top of the cold, the winds are going to be nasty on Sunday. Northwest winds will be sustained between 20-25 with gusts are high as 30 MPH. This will keep the wind chill in the 20s Sunday night as could fall as low as the upper teens for some on Monday morning.

NEXT WEEK:

The coldest weather by fall this fall is coming early next week. Highs on Monday may only reach the mid 40s and Monday night lows will drop as low as the mid 20s. We should see mostly sunny skies on Monday but it is going to be cold. On top of being cold all day, the winds are going to be quite breezy out of the northwest on Monday. By Tuesday (Veteran’s Day), highs will climb back into the mid 50s. There is even a chance for a few flurries early next week but we are not confident in that scenario playing out at this time but it will be worth keeping an eye on later in the week.

The greatest chances for flurries or very minor snow accumulations is looking like areas near the Kentucky Lake at this time. Highs will warm back up into the mid 60s by next Wednesday. We will approach 70° for both Thursday and Friday next week. Dry weather is in the forecast all week long. The winds will return to the southwest in the middle of the week and stay that way into the weekend.
