Longtime local coach honored with gym renaming ceremony

LEXINGTON, Tenn. — Residents gathered at a local school to honor one special educator.

84-year-old Donald Roberts has been a coach at Pin Oak Elementary in Lexington for 29 years.

The school held a special ceremony to honor Roberts by renaming the old gymnasium after him. They also unveiled a plaque that will be placed at the entrance.

“Well you know, when you’ve had good kids and good parents it makes it a lot of fun. They’re like me they’ve all aged too. We had a good time, this was a fun place to be and I really enjoyed being down here for 29 years,” said Roberts.

Coach Roberts has over 500 career wins at Pin Oak.
