JEA highlights ways to protect your information for Utility Scam Awareness Day

PRESS RELEASE FROM JACKSON ENERGY AUTHORITY:

JACKSON, Tenn. — Wednesday day is Utility Scam Awareness Day, and JEA is proud to stand with Utilities United Against Scams (UUAS)—a coalition of more than 150 electric, water, and natural gas utilities across the U.S. and Canada working together to protect customers from impostor scams.

Scammers often pose as your utility to pressure you into making immediate payments or sharing private information.

Wednesday, JEA reminded customers that the organization will never demand payment with a gift card, prepaid debit card, or through threats of immediate disconnection.

Protect yourself with these reminders:

  • Always verify the caller. Hang up and call JEA directly.
  • Never share personal or financial information with an unexpected caller or visitor.
  • Check your account status through our secure online portal.
  • Report suspicious activity right away.
