Weakley County Schools Leaders and Coaches Recognized in TSSAA West Grand Division Awards
Strong leadership and sportsmanship continue to shine across Weakley County Schools, reflected this year in several TSSAA honors awarded to our coaches, administrators, and school communities.
Director of Schools Jeff Cupples was named School System Administrator of the Year, an honor he says reflects far more than his own work.
“I’m grateful for this recognition,” Cupples shared. “When I look at what it represents, I see the daily efforts of our coaches, our schools, and the many people who invest in students across Weakley County. They’re the ones encouraging teamwork, modeling sportsmanship, and creating opportunities that help students grow. This award reflects their dedication and the strength of our school communities. I’m proud to be part of that work.”
Greenfield’s Tori Liggett was recognized as Female Coach of the Year, a distinction that highlights her leadership both on and off the courts.
“It’s an honor to receive this,” Liggett said. “I’m proud to represent Greenfield and Weakley County Schools, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to coach young people who work hard, show up for each other, and give their best every day.”
Gleason School was also recognized as an A.F. Bridges Divisional Finalist in the West Grand Division, one of only 27 schools in Tennessee to receive this statewide honor.
According to the TSSAA, a school must have zero reported unsportsmanlike conduct incidents during the previous school year and must consistently model a positive culture at all sporting events to receive this award. Nominations come from each athletic district’s Citizenship/Sportsmanship Committee, with final selections made by the State Selection Committee. As part of the recognition, Gleason School received a $1,500 award to support its athletic programs.
“I’m deeply honored,” shared Lee Lawrence, Principal at Gleason School. “I want to thank the Gleason Bulldogs for the way they carry themselves. Their sportsmanship and integrity reflect the character of our athletes, our coaches, and our community, and I’m grateful to be part of a program that values doing things the right way.”
These recognitions—across coaching, school leadership, and athletic culture—underscore what makes Weakley County Schools exceptional: people who lead with character, teams who compete with heart, and school communities that model sportsmanship in every arena.
