Cold Rain for Most, Wintry Mix for Some, Snow for a Few Tonight in West TN!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Cold rain showers are moving into West Tennessee this evening and a wintry mix has started to develop in our northern counties. If you are along or south of I-40 just expect a cold rain tonight. There could be a very brief period of freezing rain, enough to cause a glaze of ice but I wouldn’t expect much and snow seems unlikely for you. If you are north of I-40 you have a much better chance at seeing some ice, a wintry mix and possibly some snow. Some areas could see up to 1/10″ of ice.

The counties most likely to see some minor snow accumulations will be near the Bootheel of Missouri or counties that border Kentucky. Some roads could be slick in the morning, especially up north, but as of now, major travel impacts seem unlikely for most of us. If the showers stick around closer to sunrise or if temperatures are a couple degrees cooler than we are forecasting, things could be worse in our area. THIS WEEK:

Cold rain showers have moved in Monday afternoon and will continue this evening and last overnight. The showers should clear out by the time the sun comes up on Tuesday. Areas up north will have the best chance for some small snow accumulations and will likely encounter some freezing rain or sleet as well. Areas down south will likely see just a cold rain but cannot completely rule out a bit of freezing rain or sleet but snow accumulations seem unlikely down south at this time.

Temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s this evening up north and mid to upper 30s this evening down south. By sunrise, temperatures will fall down to the upper 20s so if the showers hang around longer tonight than we think, things could get a bit more interesting. Expected about 1/2″ of precipitation and a cloudy night with a light breeze out of the northwest.

The skies will clear out towards the back of the day on Tuesday but Tuesday is going to be a cold day. Highs will only reach the mid to upper 30s. There could be some slick roads in the morning, especially north of I-40 around sunrise into the mid morning hours. Roads should be fine in most areas by the later morning. The winds will stay out of the north on Tuesday. Tuesday night the winds will turn up calm and temperatures will fall down to the low 20s by Wednesday morning. Wednesday is going to start out cold but be decent by the afternoon. Expect a mostly sunny day with highs reaching the mid 40s. The winds will be calm most of the day and Wednesday night lows will fall down to around the freezing mark of 32°.

Another cold front is going to drop in late Thursday night into Friday morning and might bring another brief round of cold rain, a wintry mix or even a few flurries. Thursday night’s system is not going to bring as much precipitation with it as Monday night’s storm. Thursday highs will reach up to around 40° and expect a mostly cloudy day. Showers are not expected until after the sun goes down and probably not until closer to 10pm. Anything falling should wrap up by sunrise on Friday. Friday will be partly cloudy but still cold. Highs will reach the low to mid 40s and Friday night lows will fall down to around 30° to kick off our weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

Temperatures are forecast to be a little warmer this weekend with highs making it up to around 50°. Both mornings will hang in the low 30s but Sunday night we could fall back into the mid to upper 20s again. There will be another system moving through the weekend but as of now, it looks to bring a cold rain in for most of us. Depending on the timing of the system we can’t rule out a brief wintry mix or even some light snow at this time but we are leaning towards a cold rain at this time. The winds will be calm on Saturday and come out of the west on Sunday and back to the north Sunday night into Monday.
