Police cars, sign regulations, salary review: City Council holds December meeting
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Jackson City Council held their regular monthly meeting Tuesday morning.

A few council members were absent for a few medical reasons, however the meeting went on as planned.
One of the first few items on the agenda was reallocating just under $90k to get police cars fitted for patrol.
“We are, we’re moving funds now,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “So the upfitting for the vehicles is in the bond issuance. We’re moving funds in our capital that we have allocated for the police department for some other items, and then we’ll repay that back once the bond is issued.”

There have also been changes made for sign regulations in the City of Jackson. If your sign does not comply, you have seven years to change it. You can contact the zoning department for those regulations.
Mayor Conger also talks about how this affects new business owners.
“Prepare for, seven years from now, to look at what the regulations are and be ready to go into the new compliance within seven years,” Mayor Conger said. “If you buy it before January 6, or whatever the second reading is, then you still have the seven years.”

The council, for the second time, passed the vote for leasing new city vehicles. This will replace their original plan to purchase them.
“So we had two capital items, that were budgeted for, we removed those and placing them in the bond package. So transferring those capital dollars to operating to then pay for this year’s leasing,” said Conger.
Additionally, every four years, two different committees are formed to review the Mayor’s pay and the council members’ pay. Those were chosen Tuesday morning as well.

“On the Mayor’s committee: two council members, vice mayor, a citizen-appointed, I think by the vice mayor, and then one appointed by the council,” Conger said.

And the committee for the council member pay is a little different.
“Vice mayor, citizen, I think, by the vice mayor, and then three by the mayor. But what I just [do] is ask the council to submit names,” said Conger.
