Local World War II veteran celebrates 100th birthday surrounded by family
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — A World War II veteran celebrated a big milestone by turning 100 years old.

Carlos Dunn celebrated turning 100 years old Thursday. Dunn was a World War II veteran and was in the United States Marine Corps.
He was marine for nearly four years and fought on the island of Okinawa during the war.
His son, Bobby Dunn, says he had hard times on the island during the war, but he was a great dad and that they love him.
“He was a good dad. We loved him. We weren’t a huggy, kissy family, but we all knew we loved each other,” said Bobby.

He grew up in the Morris Chapel community in Hardin County and worked in Trenton.
Dunn also says it is a miracle that his father made it to this milestone and that it is incredible to see people care about him.
“Well that just shows his character and how much people think of him,” said Bobby.

According to the National World War II museum, there are only 860 World War II veterans living in Tennessee and that number is set to drop drastically over the next few years.
However, there is hope that Mr. Dunn will live to see many more years. Here at WBBJ, we want to thank Mr. Dunn for his service and wish him a very happy birthday.
