Local shoppers can win gift cards in ‘Shop McNairy’ contest

SELMER, Tenn. — Get ready to show off your selfie skills.

“This is our third annual Shop McNairy Photo Contest,” McNairy Chamber Director Katie Weatherford said.

The McNairy County Chamber is taking to social media to get people to shop local.

Konnor Davis is an intern with the chamber and says this contest has allowed them to reach people of all ages.

“It’s really helped this past three years with all the diversity around so we can get everyone around in shopping local,” Davis said.

Entering the Shop McNairy Photo Contest is really simple. All you have to do is while you’re out shopping or eating locally in McNairy County is snap a picture of yourself.

Then post the picture using #shopmcnairy and tag the chamber and you’ll be automatically entered into the contest.

Businesses say helping the local economy is just one reason why it’s important to shop local.

“I just think it’s awesome that people here have dreams,” said Hannah Weatherford, manager at the Loft on Court. “Just like my boss Ansley. She always wants to have her own store. I think it’s just very important to support those people, and it’s awesome to watch them grow and be successful.”

“You get the personal attention. We gift wrap, we deliver to the funeral home, we even meet people after hours,” Tami Kennedy, owner of KG Gifts, said.

And anytime someone from out of town visits Selmer, Kennedy says she tries to support other businesses too. “We like to promote other businesses as well, because if we make it, then we all make it.”

The contest runs through the end of July and the winner will get $300 in local gift cards.

The winner will be announced Aug. 1 during a live video on the chamber’s Facebook page.
