We regret to inform the public that Sherry Darlene Lydon, age 60, has succumbed to her injuries following a tragic crash with an 18-wheeler. This incident has arisen in the context of a deeply disturbing situation involving her family. Mrs. Lydon was suspected of fatally shooting her husband, Mr. William John Lydon Jr., while he slept, and subsequently shooting her 24-year-old son before leaving the residence. The son has been transported to a local trauma center and is currently in critical condition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Mrs. Lydon had recently undergone surgery and was reportedly experiencing night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. These factors are being considered as we continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

Shooting Incident in Lenox Area: Investigation Underway

DYER COUNTY, TN – [December 18, 2025] – This morning, deputies from the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the Lenox area. Upon arrival, law enforcement officials discovered one male deceased from at least one gunshot wound. Another male was shot, was transported by EMS, and is suffering from critical injuries.

The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and, in an apparent attempt to commit suicide, collided head-on with an 18-wheeler on I-155. The suspect was transported by EMS and is currently in critical condition.

Authorities have confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the public, and both crime scenes are very active but secure. The Dyer County Criminal Investigation Division has taken over the investigation. Investigators are currently processing evidence and gathering statements from witnesses.
