Scattered Showers on Friday, COLD Weekend on the Way!

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update:

Most of West Tennessee dropped down to the low 20s with a wind chill in the teens this morning and we didn’t really warm up during the day with highs only reaching the mid 30s. The winds will shift to the southwest tonight and that will keep temperatures up a bit near normal, falling down into the mid 20s. Those southwest winds will also help us to hit 50° on Friday but they could bring enough moisture back to the area to produce some light rain showers in the afternoon and evening hours. A few flurries cannot be ruled out early Saturday too. If you have plans this weekend, I hope they are inside, a very cold weekend is on the way. We will have the latest coming up here.

THIS WEEK:

The wind chill was in the teens Thursday morning and it was a cold day with highs only reaching the mid 30s. It felt in the 20s most of the day from that brisk northwest breeze. We did see plenty of sunshine at least and skies will be clear Thursday night into Friday morning making for another cold night with lows in the mid 20s again by Friday morning. The reason will be a little warmer tonight is because the winds will shift back to the southwest and be light around 5-10 mph. Those southwest winds will sticking around in the afternoon on Friday and that will warm us back up to around 50°.

The moisture will increase a bit as well leading to some clouds building in during the afternoon and evening as well. There could be some light rain showers in late afternoon and evening hours, but we are not expecting much. A brief period of freezing drizzle or flurries could show up Friday night into early Saturday morning but it will be nothing to be concerned about. Friday night lows will fall down to around 30° and the next round of cold air is coming early in the weekend.

THE WEEKEND:

The big questions in the forecast this week all have to do with what we can expect this weekend. Forecast models have been doing a lot of flip flopping this week as to what is coming our way. The timing and severity of the front as well as the amount of available moisture will be the main factors determining our weather Friday night and into this weekend. As of now we are expecting a overall dry weekend and a cold one as well. The front should move through Friday night or early in the day on Saturday and could bring a few flurries but a dusting or any measurable snow seems unlikely at this from the storm system.

Highs on Saturday will look to be around 40° and Sunday highs are forecast to only reach the mid 30s as of now. Overnight lows both weekend nights look to be around 20°. The winds will come out of the west of northwest this weekend and feels like temperatures in the teens looks likely as of now at times this weekend. There will be more clouds on Saturday than on Sunday. We could get as low as 15-16° for some of us Sunday morning.

NEXT WEEK:

Next week is going to start out cold and that includes your Martin Luther King holiday on Monday. Highs will only reach the upper 30s for both Monday and Tuesday. Both mornings will be cold as well with low 20s Monday morning but mid teens are possible Monday night into Tuesday morning. Tuesday morning could be the coldest morning we have had so far this winter. The winds will start out of the northwest but transition to the south in the middle of the week and that will warm up back up above average around 50° for Wednesday and Thursday. Expect a mostly sunny to partly cloudy sky next week with more clouds coming on Thursday and that will be our next shot for some rain showers as well.
