Showers Tomorrow, Major Winter Storm Possible This Weekend

WBBJ 7 Forecast Update

Chilly weather looks to stick around West Tennessee for a while longer as our first of several fronts is on the way to the region. The first of which will bring a round of showers to most of West Tennessee on Wednesday afternoon.

Tonight:

Cold, but reasonably calm weather will stay in place tonight. We’ll have a light breeze out of the southeast for much of the overnight hours. Temps will drop down to the mid to low-20s, but the light breeze will make it feel anywhere from 5-10 degrees colder.

Wednesday:

Wednesday will be another chilly day, but we should get well into the 40s during the afternoon. Showers will begin to move in during the late morning and early afternoon along a cold front that will begin to prime the region for this weekend’s system. After the rain, mostly cloudy skies will stick around and temperatures will drop down to the low-30s. Winds will shift to the northeast behind the rain.

Wednesday Rain

Thursday:

Thursday will feature another chance for rain, but the confidence in Thursday’s showers are significantly lower. Temperatures will climb up to the upper-40s, possibly 50 down south. Winds will be out of the northeast bringing a very chilly night into West Tennessee. Lows will be in the 20s, but could feel up to 10 degrees colder from the wind.

Weekend Winter Weather:

It is looking more and more likely that much of West Tennessee is going to be impacted by a winter storm starting as early as Friday Afternoon. The system will start with some snow flurries Friday that will get heavier into the night and overnight. Saturday is where the biggest impacts could occur as ice starts to accumulate under a warm nose. As of now, the most likely place for ice accumulations remains in Mississippi, but a glaze cannot be ruled out south of I-40. The system will wrap up on Sunday transitioning back to light flurries.

It is too early still to give any accurate estimates on totals for any area as we are still watching forecast trends over the next several days. We will likely begin the process of forecasting accumulations on Thursday evening as the system will be within range of our high-resolution models.

Below is an imagine of a rough forecast. Again, totals will likely not be officially forecasted until Thursday.

Snow

Final Thoughts:

Make your plans now. If you can, avoid driving on roads this weekend as conditions are expected to worsen rapidly by Saturday. With showers possible Thursday, it is possible that some roadways do not get pre-treated.  Stay up to date with the latest on air and online as we track this system over the coming days.
